I dislike snare drums
And they're absolutely everywhere. I think I especially dislike the modified ones, which make them sound sharper, which is practically what everyone does. Put a mic in front of one, and then take out all the aftersound from it, and leave this awful, piercing, sharp, 'snap' which sticks out like a sore thumb and becomes annoying as soon as its played with a regular beat, which is the job which artists invariably put them to do. Why has this friggin' instrument/sound become a staple in so many genres? Put in something else, take out that beating completely, I don't care, just...ugh, change something! Take a chance, break the norm, don't use one! I like snares in marching bands a lot, they sound good then. But in so many instance, I'm just sick of them.
